Continued from Part I

Continuing from Part I of “9 Simple Steps: Turn Email Marketing into Sales”, this Part II blog focuses on sharing more advanced skills and tips to boost audience engagement and drive sales effectively.

...

Let’s pick up where we left off, starting with the 4th step.

4) write a compelling subject line

Your subject line is key to ensuring your email is opened, read, and acted upon. It’s the first thing that users see and use to decide whether to open your email so you need to use a subject line that readers just have to open. Keep your subject line:

  • Short
  • Simple
  • Clear
  • Punchy
  • Relevant

Use action words and power words to evoke urgency, emotion, curiosity, and excitement to encourage opens and compel action

5) Optimise your pre-header text

The email preheader text is an element of the preview email text. This is either the first words from the email message or a tiny bit of text at the top of your email template. It’s visible in the inbox so you can use it as another way to indicate the benefits of reading and increase email open rates. Here’s what a preheader looks like in Outlook.

Ensure your pre-header text supports your subject line and provides another reason to open the email by leading with an offer when relevant and using personalisation and urgency (i.e., ‘ends soon’ or ‘expires tonight’) to engage the subscriber and drive your open rate.

6) mobile friendly & Responsive Design

Ensure your email is mobile-friendly with responsive design, content that is easy to read and engaging, and a clear CTA, and make sure it automatically fits all screen sizes.

7) Timing & Fequency

  • Timing

Timing can have a huge effect on whether or not your subscribers open your emails, so think carefully about what time and day you send your emails out.

For a B2B audience, the best time to send emails is typically during working hours, such as Tuesday to Thursday between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. This is when professionals are more likely to check their inbox at the start of their workday.

For a B2C audience, engagement tends to be higher during leisure times, like weekends or weekday evenings between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, when people are more relaxed and checking personal emails.

The exact timing depends on your target audience’s habits. You can use tools like ClickDimensions A/B testing to find out when your audience is most active and engaged.

  • Fequency

The frequency with which you send emails has a strong impact on your readers: if you send them infrequently, there is a high probability that they will forget you but sending them too often could annoy them.

The number of users who unsubscribe from the mailing list due to too many emails has grown over time, so the best advice is to use a Marketing Calendar and Campaign Automation, instead of sending random bursts of emails, you will set a default frequency that don’t bother your subscribers.

1)  ClickD Marketing Calendar provides a clear, comprehensive view of all marketing activities, helping you visualise and manage campaigns with ease. You can monitor which campaigns are running in a specific month, week, or day and filter by campaign to track scheduled social posts, email campaigns, and automations for each user.

2)  ClickD Campaign Automation offers flexible scheduling with precise timing triggers, allowing you to control when and how often emails are sent.

For example, when targeting B2B audiences, you can schedule emails to go out only on weekdays and during office hours.

Additionally, you can set a timer to wait, say, three days before sending the next email, ensuring a well-paced communication flow that keeps recipients engaged without overwhelming them.

8) Identify Highly Engaged Prospects

  • Scoring

After launching marketing campaigns, engagement scoring helps you pinpoint your most interested prospects. By tracking actions such as email opens, link clicks, web visit and form submissions, you can assign scores to each interaction.

Once a prospect reaches a certain threshold, it indicates a strong interest in your offerings, allowing you to prioritise follow-ups and tailor your sales approach accordingly. This scoring system ensures your team focuses on high-quality leads most likely to convert.

  • Links Click History

Once you’ve identified your most engaged prospects, the next step is to analyse their Links Click History. This allows you to see which specific products or services captured their attention. By reviewing the types of links they clicked most frequently, you gain insights into their interests and needs.

9) Personalised Sales Follow-up

Once we have this insight, we can tailor a more personalised follow-up strategy. For example, we could send a quotation and provide additional resources to help them explore the product further. With Quote Manager CPQ, we can easily create and send out a professional Sales Quote within Microsoft Dynamics 365

By aligning your follow-up with their demonstrated interests, you not only enhance engagement but also significantly increase the chances of conversion. This targeted approach ensures your efforts are focused on what truly matters to the prospect.
